Privacy notice

How Bristol Social Media Academy uses the information you share on this website, the cookies we use, and the choices you have.

Who we are

Bristol Social Media Academy (BSMA) is a social media training business based in Bristol and run by Thom Whitchurch. We are responsible for the personal information you give us through this website.

Questions or requests about your information? Email thom@bristolsocialmediaacademy.co.uk or call 07387 287849.

Enquiries

When you send an enquiry, we collect your name and email address, plus anything else you choose to add: your phone number, the training you are interested in, your message and whether you would like a call.

We use these details to reply, answer your questions, quote for training and arrange it if you go ahead. Our lawful basis is taking steps you have asked for before a possible contract, and our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.

We do not add you to a mailing list from an enquiry, we do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.

The training quiz

The quiz does not ask for your name or contact details. Your answers are worked out in your browser and we do not save them. If you choose to enquire from your results, your recommendation and a summary of your answers are carried into the enquiry form or an email draft, so you can check, edit or delete them before you send anything.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand which pages help people find the right training. It only runs if you accept analytics cookies, and it is set up with Google signals and ad personalisation switched off. If you reject them, Google Analytics does not load.

What it sets

  • _ga and _ga_*: Google Analytics cookies that tell visits apart. They last up to two years and are only set after you accept.
  • bsma_analytics_consent: a small setting saved in your browser to remember your choice, so we do not ask on every page.

Our enquiry form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that messages come from people rather than bots. It is needed for the form to work safely, so it does not need your consent.

You can change your mind at any time.

Free guide and library

If you create a free account to get our video editing guide, that account is covered by its own library privacy notice. It explains what we collect at sign-up and how marketing emails work.

Services we use

We use trusted providers to run this website and handle enquiries. They process information on our behalf and only as needed to provide their service.

  • Webflow hosts this website and stores enquiry form submissions.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile checks enquiry forms for spam.
  • Google provides Google Analytics (only with your consent) and the fonts on this website. Loading the fonts means your browser connects to Google, which sees your IP address.
  • Netlify hosts our guide site, including the videos and images shown on some pages.
  • Our email provider holds the messages we send and receive about your enquiry.

Some of these providers are based in the US or process information there. Where that happens, they rely on safeguards approved for UK data transfers.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry details for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and any training that follows. If you book training, we keep the records we need for the booking and for our accounts, including anything the law requires for tax. We review old enquiries regularly and delete those we no longer need.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of the information we hold about you
  • correct anything that is wrong
  • delete your information
  • stop or limit how we use it
  • send your information to you or another organisation

Where we rely on your consent, such as analytics cookies, you can withdraw it at any time. Email thom@bristolsocialmediaacademy.co.uk to make a request. We will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
